Fuel Gauge Medallion

Fuel Gauge Medallion
Well. After I installed the HD Speedo/Tach combo I found myself annoyed for no good reason that I now had two fuel gauges within eyeshot of each other. Whatever level of quasi OCD I have had me constantly looking at the two and comparing their readings. Stupid for sure but not going away.
So I hatched a plan to simply find a plain chrome stick on medallion and cover it up. But, I quickly learned that no such thing exists. So plan B was to simply buy a second matching gas cap medallion, stick that on and be on my way. But that idea came up short when two things became evident. First the contour of the gauge cap is slightly different than the gas cap and the medallion has a flat spot in the center that just won't allow the medallion to fit right. So for a few days I abandoned the idea all together.
But the more I thought about it I got the idea that perhaps I could recontour the inside of the medallion with a Dremel. Which is exactly what u did. Some slow and careful going to not overheat the piece or remove too much material. About 45 minutes of grinding, fitting and polishing and I had a piece that would do what I needed it to do. Some thin 3M double sided mounting tape positioned around the outside perimeter, avoiding the center to allow a bit more space got me a left side that matched the right side. Looks OK to me.
