Default Metzeler ME888 vs. Dunlop D402

This question has probably been asked before, so thanks in advance for your comments. I ride a '07 Street Glide and wondered what's better, the stock D402's or the Triple 8's?

If your answer is the Triple 8, should I stick to the stock (MT90/MU85) sizes they offer or should I go for the 130/90-150/80?

Thanks again!!!

I swapped out my 402 for the 888's. I liked my Dunlops, sticky and a soft ride, Good all around tire. They do nothing well, but do little wrong. The 888's are and excellent tire, but they do ride more stiff/harsh. They feel a little "greasey" when cornering aggressively. They wear like iron. When deciding which 888, do your research, the 150/16 is a reinforced tire with a higher load capacity and run a higher tire presure, The MT/MU tire have less capacity and have more 32nd's of rubber. I have 3500 miles on mine and see no wear at all. My Dunlop was to the wear bars at 8500 miles (rear) Looks like my rear 150/16 will go to 12-15000 mules. Jafrum has the rear 888 150/16 for less then $130

the 402 is the LAST tire i will ride on,any of the newer dual compound tires(888,american elite,commander11) will handle and ride just as well if not better and will last longer.

I'll never put Dunlops back on my scoot. Went with the Metzler 880's. (the 888's weren't available at the time). Smoother ride and no more crack chasing.

Just glancing at some tire comments... I have an 05' FLHRCl for a little over two years now. Changed my tire twice. Went with the stock Dunlop, did not clock the mileage, but could not have got much more than 6,000 miles out of it. Now i have a cheap-o Shinko tire on it, $105.00 delivered to my house. I have about 2500 miles on it, and it's probably half worn. How the hell are you guys getting over 10,000 miles out of any tire? I ride mine until they are flat and bald in the center.

I have 20,000 miles on my Michelin commander 2's, love the tire and wanted to put a new one on before Sturgis but they are impossible to get right now. So looks like I will have to look at either a E3 or a 888. Is there a difference between the E3 and American Elite, its the rear for a '11 Streetglide. Any recommendations for me at this time???

I went to E3 on first replacement (08 roadglide) they were ok (much better than stock) replaced this winter and went to metz 888 and am loving them, by far better handling and ride comfort over the e3.
That being said I also have always liked the 880s I have run on my softail. Not saying e3 bad I just think the 888 is a better ride.
