Question Need help loosening jam nut on clutch adjuster screw

I tried to adjust my clutch yesterday during my primary oil change using the service manual instructions, but I couldn't loosen the jam nut on the clutch adjuster screw inside the primary. When I cranked on the nut to loosen, the clutch pack would turn. Bike was in neutral. Next I put the bike in 1st gear hoping that would hold the clutch pack in place, but when I cranked on the nut the bike started to move. I had plenty of slack in the clutch cable if that matters. This is first time for me doing it myself instead of dealer. 2012 RK, 103 stock engine w/Stage 1, 10000 miles.

Any ideas on how to loosen the jam nut? Or how to stop the clutch pack from moving when I try to loosen the jam nut?

Thanks!

Are you holding the adjuster screw with an Allen wrench? The nut is screwed onto the adjuster so you must hold it stationary while loosening/tightening the nut.

Hold the brake while you loosen it or put it gear with something in front of the rear tire. I used my 3/8 electric impact to loosen mine, but tightened it by hand with a 17mm honda spark plug wrench that I have. Worked great because the socket has a hex on the end for a wrench. I know the nut is standard 11/16 socket if I remember correctly but that socket fit wicked good.
