Default How to polish light scuffs from paint

So I was putting some new bars on my SG. I put a blanket on the tank but apparently it wasn't as soft as I thought. There are some light scuffs in the paint. Not real noticeable but I'm a little obsessive. What's the best way to buff that out. I don't want to make it worse.

Thanks.

Your bike is pretty new so the paint will have a clear coat over it. If the scratches haven't gone thru the clear coat go to auto zone and purchase a clear coat scratch remover. They sell 3 grades of polish depending on the severity of the scratches. Good Luck!

Harley swirl and scratch remover works well... but it takes a while, one try won't do it, you will rub until your shoulder hurts.

The best way to avoid light scuffs and swirls is to NOT buy a black Harley... they are horrible for that.

I also like HD Swirl & Scratch Treatment, it was great on my black bikes.

It might have been a combination of the towel and dirt that caused the scratches. Harley clear is relatively "soft".

Also consider "ScratchX" (made by Meguiar's) that you can get most anywhere.

Here is a link to a how-to by Meguiar's.

Best of luck.

I had a ton of light scratches on my tank...the previous owner apparently had a tank bag, and the Turtle Wax Black Box took care of the scratches and the finish looks like new.

This polish is the balm!! It isn't cheap.... But this is what I use... This product came recommended from a professional auto detailed I used to polish my hard bags... This sealant will protect your paint and make the bike easier to keep clean. There is a hole system but it gets pricy fast...

The kit...

I have run my boot over the hard bags a time or two, Use 3M Perfect-it #2 and #3 by hand to restore the finish to new. removes [ not fill ] the scuffs in just a moment.
