Default Electra Glide 14" ape hangers... HOW MUCH??!

I'm taking in my son-in-laws 2001 Electra Glide for some service and repair work as a surprise from my daughter in a week, so today she mentioned that she knows that he would like 14" ape hangers. I decided to call and get a quote from the Indy shop for the new bars, cables and labor... $1,200-$1,500!

I think the parts are estimated at $500-$600; is this a typical price for this type of upgrade? I was pretty surprised...

That's about what my dealership quoted for my bike. Did them myself saved the $ and know they are done right. When I picked my bike up they tried to get me to have them put on V & H power header and mufflers for the cost of 1600. Then they wanted 900 more to tune it on the dyno. Paid 1160 for my Area 51 tru duals.they provided a map, runs awesome and I saved a lot of $ doin it myself .

I believe they charge a flat rate of 8 hours to do the change over, not that it takes that long.So if they charge $100 an hour, there`s $800,plus the parts=$1300-$1400.

Thanks for the replies. Would have never guessed that the process of changing out the handlebars would be so expensive.

Its not the bars as much as it is the wiring and cable and hose installs. On mine I had to remove the exhaust to access the right trans cover for changing the clutch cable and had to remove the gas tank to change the throttle cables, in addition to nearly removing the fairing to gain access to the bar clamp, cables and wiring. Its a bitch of a job in my opinion.

the price that the stealership charges for labor is just crazy! thats why i did my own. i dont know about you, but 800$ is a lot of money to me. find an indy or a guy like 'themouth!!!' who knows what the hell they are doing for waaaaay less $$$. you will thank yourself.

No doubt! Seen a few DIYer's get frustrated in the middle of the job, and have the bike towed to a dealer.

My dealer quoted me a price of $1500-1600 for parts and labor.

My indy charged me $480 for labor, which included swapping out my stock header for a de-catted header!

I provided Yaffe 12" Classic Bagger Apes, De-Catted Header, Poly Riser Bushings, Twist Grip Sensor and Avon Custom Contour Black Anodized Grips.

My indy provided Magnum Sterling Chromite II Lower/Upper Brake Lines, Magnum Sterling Chromite II Clutch Cable, Guerrilla Cables Handlebar Wiring Harness and Gaskets/Fluids.

I couldn't be more pleased with the price or the job!

I think I paid 545 for my entire set up and I don't charge myself any labor fees
