Happened to me years ago outside Custer, SD, 2am, after bar. I was riding a V65 Sabre, my buddy a 750 Kaw, his hat blew off, I pulled over to the side. Left foot hit road, right foot nothing, it was a 45deg hill downward and over we went. The bike slid down the grassy hill about 20ft, 45deg upside down, that was fun to upright at 500lbs+. Luckily no damage to the bike or myself.

Bummer dude! Glad you're ok and the bike has only limited scarring, but reading posts like this remind me to be extra careful in unfamiliar surroundings.

Sorry to hear that. At least you are not hurt. I have been wanting to loose my guards for so long. Then I hear a story like this. I will just go home today and polish mine. They will not be removed anytime soon!

I've got a friend that rides a 13 Road Glide. It didn't come with any bag guards, and he sees no need to "ugly up" his bike. I rag on him now and again, but he's one of those talented riders who will never dump it. I think I'll forward the link to this thread to him.

Default Guards ? But it looks so cool without them.

Read your post and remembered the time I dropped mine. Freaking jiffy stand did not extend all the way (my fault, not the jiffy stand). I stepped off on the high side and watched "Buzzz" fall on the left side. Damn. I immediately ran around grab the handlebars and stood it back up just like I used to do my motocross bikes back in the day. I guess the adrenaline kicked in because I did not even think about the extra weight. Every time I see a big bike without engine guards/bag guards I cringe because I know one day that bike is going to fall.

There are the ones that have done it ...
Then there are the ones that have Yet To do IT!
I did it at a 4way stop in front of a Cop as I was going to make a right hand turn.
Stopped fully, feet down and clutch in as I was releasing lever and both feet on the board in turn, bike sputters and shuts down there I am in middle of turn trying to kick with right foot to keep bike upright till I could regain balance...Yup, you guessed it over I tip and with much dismay I step off and let the engine guard and saddle bag guard do there job. Cop pulls up and asks if all is Ok and if I need any help all was good as no damage other than to my pride.
Feeling for you and your pocket book.
Rob
