I learned in cop motor school to mount from the high side (right) so you can keep an eye on traffic approaching from behind.

most of the time mount from the high side and dismount from the high side --

I learned originally to mount from the low side (left) just like you would a horse.

on some occasions I do it from the low side -- when my left leg is feeling frisky

Nope, but the ground sure does if your on a side slope. Getting on the low side in that situation is plain dumb.

Left/low side all the time. Seems completely unnatural from the high/right side.

I tried writing the explanation a couple times and it doesn't write/sound as clearly as I mean it.

Always been a low sider, even have passengers get on from the left,so they wouldn't burn their leg on the pipe,but my left hip is getting worse,May have to give it a try.The rare occasions when I have felt awkward.

I mount from high side then rider from low side after righting the bike
- no scratches on anything.

Update, just went out to plug in tender and cover bike for the night, Tried mounting from the right, No way, my right hip is just as bad or worse. Barely got my knee over.
