PIAA Bulb - WOW what a difference!!!
I replace my headlight (H4) halgeon with a new anti-vibration PIAA H4 bulb today and went from 60/55 watts to 110/110 and WOW what a difference. Before I was out running my head light it seemed. The factory light didn't shine no more that 100 feet. I was in total darkness. I put this bulb in and it like night and day. The part number is 70456 if anyone is interested, a little high on the price but it won't fail on vibration like some of the other lamps are doing. This baby is super bright!!

I would think that wattage would melt the plug in connectors to the light or cause other wiring related failure??? Is the bulb to hot for the headlight lense, it would be great to have a bright light but not at the cost of electrical system failure. [sm=bangbang.gif]

I don't think it would be the heat alone from the bulb, it would also be the current draw that may be too high for what the wiring harness was designed to handle. I would be concerned that the higher current draw would melt the wiring and cause a short. Of course that is what fuses and breakers are for but why chance it?

No worries there the amp draw is the same. It is the design of the bulb that gives you the affect of 100/110 watts of power at the lower amp draw.

The bulb actual wattage needs to be known. If you have doubled the amp draw then the wires and connectors are not rated for that and you are asking for trouble. If it is a play on words, like give the effect of a 110 watt bulb then knowing the actual amp draw would clear things up.

It looks like the current draw is the same. The wattage is for equivilant brightness.

I have tried numerous kinds of headlight bulbs and settled on the Silvania SilverStar 9003. This is the same as the H4 that comes with our bikes. This SilverStar bulb is a brilliant white bulb that really lights up the roadway in front of me. For under $20 its a bargain...
