I understand the need for a louder horn...I'll offer two suggestions:

1. Get a Mini-Beast; I have a 2008 FLHT so I got the one with the oval cover that looks like a smaller version of the air cleaner cover (they make several different covers, so check out their website). LOUD, works well.

2. For the guy that wants to go (much) cheaper, go to Harbor Freight and get a Wolo Bad Boy...$38 bucks.

Make sure you add a horn relay (the Mini-Beasts come with a relay) on a dedicated, fused power lead to the battery (along with an appropriate ground wire...your existing horn wires will fry if you try to run one of the louder air horns with stock wiring. Use the stock horn wires to fire the relay.

A loud horn has saved my bacon more than once...ususally from a distracted driver about to move into my lane (read: cellphone user).

Ride safe.

I have always felt proper use of my horn was part of defensive driving.

get a 6 volt horn off ebay- plenty loud.
I use one on my FXR

on my bagger I have a HD airhorn ( bought used, cheap), it works well on the freeway when merging traffic doesn;t bother to look.
( I had a Howie's before, it failed pretty quick)

My old mini-beast got the attention of cars around me. The stock horn did not. I could see people turning their heads to look around when I blew it.

I have a 2014 now and when I put the current version of the mini-beast on it, I do not think it is much louder than the new stock horn is. My gut feeling is that the newer mini-beast horns are not as loud as they were 7-8 years ago.

If you like the stock look and want something just a bit louder, look at the new horn for the 2014's and get one of them. I am still trying to confirm that they fit the older bikes. Over the next few weeks I will be trying my old horn on my wife's 2005 Dyna. Sorry, I can't confirm right now that it fits and works right. The nice part is that it should not need the relay added.

Loud horns save lives more than loud pipes do. There are many different types of air horns on the market. I have them on both bikes and they will get the attention of that driver changing lanes or pulling out in front of you. However you can't count on loud horns and bright lights to save you but they do help.

I still chuckle to myself when I think about the lady who started to pull in front of me and nearly jumped out of her skin when I touched off the wo-lo air horn a few years ago. She stopped real quick and then gave me a look as I smiled at her.

There was a youtube video floating around where some guy in Russia i think mounted train horns in the saddle bags of a bike. It was cool sounded like an actual freight train coming down the road

Hey thanks! I`ll check that out.

Well, this was dumb. First, I bought an old style horn from a member because I thought mine was dying then I decided to posted this thread.

I quickly learned that my horn proabaly simply needs adjusting (free) AND HD sells a louder version that will fit under the standard clam shell cover. So, I bought the louder version from Kutter for $36, and I now own two pre-14 OEM horns. They are availalble, cheap!
