Default Quick detach backrest and or tourpak confusion help

I dont have either a backrest or tourpack but my bike has the docking kit on it.

It is my impression that a quick detach backrest and a quick detach tourpak both use the exact same docking hardware so I could one or the other but not both at the same time, which I wouldnt need to since the tourpak IS a backrest.

Is that correct?

I ask because I am about to put a bad dad otr fender and use their backrest reolocation kit and they(bad dad) are telling me its a seperate kit for the tourpack.... but if they both use the same docking hardware, how its it a different kit?

I have a standard HD 4point docking kit on mine. It allows me to use a luggage rack and/or passenger backrest together or separately. If I take both of those off I can put my tourpack which has a passenger backrest built in on the 4pt dock.

the passenger backrest uses the outer part of the front two points of the docking kit and the shock mounts. the tour pack (or luggage rack) uses the inner part of the front and the back points of the docking kit. bad dad must approach it differently where they may not have two parts on the front of the tour pack mount where a backrest would mount.

My 05 is the same. Two different docking systems. One for a tour pack, another for just a backrest / luggage rack. Not sure about the newer bikes but for mine, you have to purchase them separately.
