Default Air ride gauge question

After installing my rear air ride system I noticed an issue with the gauge that I installed in my dash. it apperars that when I dump a small amount of air the gauge drops more than it appears. In other words , I can be around 80lbs and just bump the release switch and the gauge drops to around 50 -60 but the shocks didnt move at all. I have to hit my pump for a quick burst and the gauge starts to increase.

So it seams that although the gauge may be acccurate on air up, I'm not so impressed on the air down value.

Could it be where the gauge is tied into the system or does it even matter? Or is this just normal for this style of set up and I need to hit it with a shot of air after a drop ?

wondering
Rick

If the rear shocks are topped out, as in all the way up, then reducing the air pressure may not cause it to drop down any. It'll have a softer rate, but won't go down in height until the spring rate drops below the weight of the bike.

I don't know what air ride you have installed, so I'm not saying that's what is happening. Just that it is a possible explanation.

I don't have a gauge on mine but it doesn't take but a touch of the down switch to feel the bike drop so I wouldn't worry about it. I use the butt and ride gauge to tell me when it is right. I have had my arnott air system since about a month after buying my '09 ultra and I love it .

Hey RickK, What gauge did you mount in the dash?? I just installed the Arnott 13" Aldan shocks and the VIAIR 2" gauge in the dash, replacing the air temp gauge. I still have to hook up the air line tonight. Getting to the gauge is a PITA!! If you have the Arnott system, what size fitting to connect to the distribution manifold? I am using 1/4" line going from the gauge to the manifold.

I installed the same gauge ,Viair 2". I agree about the gauge being a PITA to get to . I removed the radio and that made it a lot easier. I used 1/8 line al the way through because I didnt like how fast the 1/4 line dropped the bike. My system is all single pieces that I picked up and built. I'm using the Monroes MA785 shocks

Does the air line fit ok in the wire tray under tank?

I used 1/4" line and mine fit under the tank along with the handlebar control wires.

I ran my line above the tank because it was easier to remove the tank cover. Remove gas cap, remove screw at the rear of the tank that holds down the chrome cover, then remove one or two screws at the front of the tank on the same chrome cover. You could loosen the front ones enough to raise the right side of the cover and tuck the hose in. I installed a braided wire sleeve and ran my air line, and my wires from my CVO dash switch to the dump valve under the seat. Now I can get to the sleeve from either end of the tank and I could slide another wire through it if I needed to without removing the cover again which was no big deal.

HD ran wires underneath it so I thought if it was good enough for them, it would work for me.
