Default Cracked Exhaust Pipe

Just discovered a crack in the rear header pipe. They are Bubs Tru Duals that have been on this bike since the bike was new, 75k miles ago. Buying a new system is not possible right now so I can get it welded or try to find another pipe or order new headers from Bubs. Anyone have good luck welding the pipe? Muffler shop wants about $50 to do it but the local indy bike shop wants $150 but said once cracked, it will crack again later on and said I should just get new headers.

muffler shop, they do it all day, every day.

make sure when you put it back on that the pipe is not stressed, and not contacting the frame

Had an 05 Roadking with V&H true duals. Every 15,000 miles the rear header pipe would break. Pulled it welded it up and kept going. I finally figured out the problem after the third time. The Indy that was changing my rear tire would push down on the muffler to pull the axle and crack the header pipe.

Already pulled the pipe off and will take it Monday to the Muffler shop. I will put a new gasket in as well.

I tried to weld it but it won't last long. Buy a new one.

Weld it! If you have a good welder, they know what to do. I had a "welder" do mine and he says he done them before. I did also find a bracket that really has worked and no problems since. By the way, he charged me $25.

funny you mentioned that about pushing down on the muffler. At the Laughlin rally I watched the guys working at one of the big name wheel vendors booth yanking the heck out of 2 bikes they were swapping wheels on. I could not believe how much they were stressing the pipe where it mounted to the rear cylinder. Kind of scary
