Default Alaska Riders - advice wanted

planning a ride in AK this July - on day 5 we are leaving Fairbanks headed south to Valdez - looks to be about 360 miles... I prefer to take it nice and slow - looking for a nice place about midway or so to spend the night - I am NOT camping,,, any suggestions??

Curious about this myself. But we are doing most of it on a ship.

flying in to Anchorage on July 5 (4 days in a rental car) then picking up an EG from Anchorage HD on a HOG Fly&Ride and heading north to Fairbanks and south to Valdez ( a week on the EG) On the trip between Fairbanks and Valdez (360 miles) looking at maybe Gakona Junction for a stopover - I must prefer to enjoy the area and not just do Miles each day.. So, came here hoping for riders that have done this ride before...

I assume you're coming down Rte 3. Be sure to stop at the little one moose town of Talkeetna and get your picture taken at the welcome to sign. Have a brew at the West Rib Pub & Grill. There are motels and B&Bs in the area.

according to mapquest. Talkeentna turnoff is about 100 miles north of Anchorage and then another 14 miles - I may make this a lunch stop - I pick up the bike at Anchorage HD at 11am and head north -all depends on time.. I do thank you for the suggestion..

The mileage is pretty accurate. I think it's worth the side trip. If you're lucky with the weather, there's a great view of Denali (Mt McKinley) on the way there from Anchorage. At the intersection of the road from Talkeetna and Rte 3, there's a sign with an arrow pointing north withFairbanks and and arrow pointing south with Anchorage - another cool sign for a photo op.
