Default Changing wheel size on 2006 Street Glide

2006 Street Glide with stock rims - 16"x3" front and back

Finally changing my stock rims to mags and decided to go with an 18"x3.5 in front and an 18"x4.25" in the rear. My question is in regards to any additional parts that mat be required besides the obvious wheels and bearings

Will I need new spacers or will these wider rims just fit - any additional parts?

Thanks in advance

Steve

As long as you get wheel properly configured for your bike they will bolt right on with the existing axle spacers. What kind of wheels are you going with?

Hogpro, thanks for the quick reply! - I'm going with your Apollo on the front and a Smoothie for the rear, probably ordering next week!

Thanks,

Steve

With our wheels the stock axle spacers will work fine. If you want chrome spacers let us know when you call and I am sure we can throw some in with your order for the front wheel.

You can't see the rear spacers on a bagger so no need to bother with those.

I'm not asking this to be a smart ***, so although tone of an email can never be known

are you scared of a 21 up front?

The reason I ask is because I was, I was going to go with an 18 up front didn't care and then I let the guys a PM talk me into the 21 and while at bike week, and they said, look if you don't like it we'll take it off and put the 18 on, but youre gonna love it

so I am asking, why only go to the 18 up front?

It's nice to see someone else helping me with my job. I spend all day talking about this to customers and it is very difficult to know who will be happy with what.

I don't care for the 21" up front at all, so I went with an 18" up front on my 08 FLHX. On my FLSTF I went 18"18" just like the op wants, I loved the look and the wheel roll out remains next to unchanged.

Like I said, it is impossible to know who likes what without trying it. I have run 18x3.5, 19x3, and 21x3.25. I feel no major difference with any of them and much prefer the look of the 21". I am buying a wheel for looks. How it rides certainly plays a role but so does the rider who is riding it.

Thus, as everything on a motorcycle is concerned it is all subjective. I hate this answer but it is the truth.

LOL, LOT's of chatter on this topic!

I love the look of the 21's but prefer the ride of the 18s, plus I am only 5'9" and the bike fits me perfectly with the 18s

Iv'e actually ridden my Bro's bikes with both configurations and 18's are the choice foe me

I have ridden the 21" front on an FL at the same time time I had the 18" on my FL. We swapped. I didn't like it. It's my preference. But I don't try to talk someone out of going 21" and to go with an 18" front wheel to justify my choice.
