Valve for shock is not getting depressed enough to give you a true reading. All you are getting is the pressure in the pump hose.

I don't usually have to say this, but...."you're right"! I thought I had that screwed on tight enough, but I didn't. I took the bag off this time and tightened it down and it took more pumps to get the pressure up (as opposed to the one that evidently built the pressure up in the end of the pump's hose). Sure enough...it held when I removed it and reattached. Thank you. And yes...I feel dumb. Didn't go deep enough. Story of my life!

I am at a disadvantage, I go 280-285, the 'Little Woman around 150 then the cascade of 'stuff' we have to take to satisfy her needs! 50 pounds is max and at fifty they remain!

If it ever were the shock though...I'd go an inch lower! Grateful it wasn't though...just operator error.

I had this issue with my Harley air pump. I found that fitting at the end of the hose had come apart somehow and when I screwed the schrader valve connector back together, I hadn't realized that a black grommet fell out of the fitting. Luckily, I found the rubber grommet in the bag I store the pump in and when I installed the grommet, all worked well. By the way, this pump is about 14 years old. Great pump!

Do you have the cheap Chinese knockoff pump? It will screw you most of the time. Here's a trick, pump up your shocks put a surgical clamp on the line to pinch it off, remove pump and wallah! Be careful with the clamp/needlenose it could damage the hose but it'll work in a pinch. Additionally, buy the Harley pump or one you can return.

When mine starts giving bad readings I put a drop of light oil on the rubber seal (grommet) in the pic in post 16. It then makes an airtight seal on the shrader valve. If I have a bad seal between pump and valve the gauge needle will jump. You can tell when it is acting correctly or not.
The Harley pumps are made pretty well. Mine is about 8 years old and no problems other than the seal drying out occasionally.
