Default Voltage Regulator Options?

I have an 07 Electraglide Classic. Out riding yesterday and my regulator took a dump. I was about 125 miles from home and my regulator dropped to about 11 on the gauge. The lights lit up on dash. Seeing as it was Sunday and all shops were closed. I headed for home knowing that running on battery wasnt going to get it done. After 20 miles or so the regulator started charging again. I was able to get it home.
Are there better options than the stock regulator? Suggestions, brands?

first thing is check all connections, making sure they are tight and clean. cycle electric makes good stuff.

you should diagnose the problem first.

it could be about 6 things that are not your regulator.

you can search for the diagnostics on the forums, all you need is a meter.

charge your battery fully first

In the vicinity of 3 to 4 years ago I bought a "Cycle Electric" regulator like this one: http://www.jpcycles.com/product/383-632 from a local indy. It has worked flawlessly ever since. They claim it works differently from the factory unit in that it does something else with the extra juice than ground it back to the frame so the stator isn't working as hard all the time. Whether it is marketing hooey or not, it has been a good unit. My factory VR failed much as your did, battery light for a while, then all was fine for a while, then the light again. The return of the light became more frequent. Go to their web site and choose the correct unit, it will be plug and play.
