Rotate them up. It's totally free, and makes a WORLD of difference. It's the first thing a motorman does to improve the handling of a Road King. It forces you to sit more upright and gives you more leverage to make the tight turns.
The MOCO should be ashamed of the bars they put on the Road Kings. Prior to the '14s, the stock Road King bars were the worst, most uncomfortable, worthless handle bars I have ever ridden. When I purchased my 2013 Anniversary Road King, one of the first things I did was hop on it and ride to West Virginia. I almost couldn't walk the next day after the ride home. They are the completely wrong handlebar for the large touring chassis!
That being said, I installed 16 inch apes. Not saying that what's best for you, but for me, 14-16 inch apes are the only way to get comfortable on a King
Wild 1's have some of the best (quality and style) after market bars for RK's. The horrible factory bars on RK's are a common thread on the forum. Call the techs at Wild 1. I bought from them in 2004 and they look as good today as the day I got them in the mail.
