Owners manual says no cruise control for the first 500
I think the first 200 do not exceed 3500 rpm

What page is that on? On page 126 under Break in Riding Rules I'm not seeing anything about cruise control. Too late for me anyway, but might help out others. I didn't see that anywhere in the manual the I can find.

Even though you don't have it yet, you can read the owners online via the harley website. The owners manual is broken into a bunch of PDF files. I downloaded them to my laptop and combined them into a single PDF. Someone else had the great idea of putting the PDF on their phone so you'd always have it.

You can get to the owner's manual here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...bmLocale=en_US

I broke my 2011 RGU in at 75mph on the interstate.

Bought it 250 miles from home, in a different state.

Rode it 30,000+ miles in 3 years with zero issues.

My experience, YMMV.

Dealer told me to keep the RPM above 2500 and not over 3000 for the 1st 500 miles. made sense to me, I hit the Freeway and made a good attempt to do just that.

Just don't lug it. Otherwise....ride it like you forgot to pay for it.

I would recommend you read your owners manual and follow the break in directions printed in the manual.

The Owner’s Manual has the recommended break-in procedure but my last 2 FI bikes have been broken-in on the Dyno, ***** out.

Go to S&S website to see what their break-in procedure is. Without referring to it and by memory; the break-in is setting the rings cleanly in the cylinders and that is accomplished in the first 50 miles. And change the oil at 50, 500 & 1,000.

Not using the cruise control and varying engine speed makes a lot of sense to me.

These motors are not so different but their marking departments are.

Actually I swear I read that but on page 126 #2 says up to 500 miles to vary engine speed and avoid operating at any steady engine speed for long periods

That's what cruise control does, steady engine speed for a long period

Just ride it. It will break in fine however you ride, as long as you are not overly abusive by lugging or hole-shots.
