Default Harley Opener & Liftmaster 8550

We changed out some old garage door openers with the Liftmaster 8550 series. When I plug my old Harley garage door receiver in (91562-01) and hit the high beam toggle, the garage door opener kicks the code that the wires for the door are shorted. For those that own this setup, have you been able to get it to work? I called Liftmaster and they are worthless. Before ordering another receiver, I want to make sure they are compatible, otherwise I'm going old school with a door opener in one of the glove compartments on the RG. Thanks

The newer openers with the "fancy" remote mounted on the wall usually will not work. Disconnect that wall unit and see if your harley setup will work.

I have the same model garage door opener and a 2013 CVO Ultra. It does not work. When I flick my hi/low, it makes the garage door lights flicker and I can hear a click. But this resets the time on the wall mounted unit as if I lost power. I've read that these new openers will not work.

Even for my 2012 Subaru WRX with the homelite (sp) mirror, I had to purchase a "repeater" from liftmaster for my subaru to work with the garage door. This repeater looks just like the harley one where it plugs into an outlet but it is not "wired" to the opener. Supposedly, you can use the repeater with another opener also. However, I have not been able to get this "repeater" to learn the Harley hi/low signal. So I've basically given up.

I did read on one of the forums where another ride did this that worked for him.
He ordered a 3 button remote from liftmaster $35 and opened it up and sodered the wires from the harley module to the contacts under button one. He leaves this remote on top of the door opener. When he flicks his hi/low it activates the door.

I may try this, but have not yet.

Default Cheap easy fix

Easiest and cheapest fix I found

Remove the button from the wall and soldier the leads from the plug in unit strait to the board.

Thumbs up

There is both a modification to your existing receiver as well as an inline interface module on eBay that takes care of this very problem:
