But the cover goes over the part that fits in the inner fairing, and as far as I know you have to remove the outer fairing to access the fastener that holds it in place. But you might want to check the manual or search for easier ways to accomplish that.

I have seen people put a cork in the hold though.

Depends on the year. From 1987 to 2013 the batwing models came from the factory with a cig lighter in the inner fairing.

Correct, the 2013 and earlier touring models had an actual cigarette lighter. The 2014 and later did not have a cigarette lighter and the socket was not intended for that use. Not sure why that changed.

Curious thing is on the 2013 and earlier models, HD said to not used it for power. From my 2013 Touring HD manual,

"Do not use cigarette lighter socket to power electrical devices. Automotive
electrical plugs can damage the socket, which can result in improper lighter
operation and overheating that could cause equipment damage. (00599b)
See Cigarette Lighter. Some models are equipped with a cigarette lighter. The lighter is located on
the left side of the fairing. To operate, press lighter into socket. The lighter will pop out when hot."

I thought it was pretty cool to have a cigarette lighter, even though I quit smoking years ago. I didn’t like it enough to keep buying them after they fell out though.
