DTT and PhilM

RE: DTT and PhilM
Phil.....thanks for your insight/reply. There are few people I would trust with insight on products related to a performance build but you are definitely one that I trust........sooooooo
I thought the ECM itself could/would compensate(adaptive learning)for the miniscual changes that we as "tinkerers" could invoke on our scoots..........certainly not punching out jugs or hotter cams....etc...etc.... but isn't the ECM capable of "flexing"? with the smaller stuff? I'm certainly not going to be guilty of nit-picking any subject, but I'd like to know more about these tuners, hence my inquisitions.
............and I DO appreciate you sharing your experience as I do consider itviable and worth it's weight in gold.

I have been reading this too, and this DTT seems like it would do a better job then a PCIII, and the SERT too. I would like to add that sometimes a Good Tuner to tune a bike with a SERT or PCIII can be hard to find. I have already had to deal with a bad tuner to the tune of $350.00 out the door with nothing in return. Seems like one bad tune from a Dyno run with SERT or PCIII this DTT would pay for it self. Not to mention some of the key point that Phill stated too with the DTT always retuning the bike on the fly.

RE: DTT and PhilM
The setup on the 07's is certianly a step in the right direction, as it is HD's entry into "production"closed loop ignitions (actually debut'd on the 06 Dyna's). While it is true that the 06 Dyna's & 07s have some "sefl tuning" capabilities, it is quite limited. I'm gonna steal the words of someone far smarter than I when asked if the 07's need anything better than what the MoCo provides with respect to this implementation of the stock ignition:
"If you
ask your dealer, most will tell you that it's not necessary...but
here's the deal and I'll let you decide. The stock O2 sensor is a
narrow band which means it only adjusts for .1-.3 air/fuel. From HD,
the stock maps are already set to run around 14.6:1 which is getting
way lean..especially for air cooled motors. Engines produce the most
torque at a much richer air/fuel. That being said..."
(Thanks for the use of your words Kevin! )
The key to what he is saying is actually two fold. 1) The closed loop capabilities of the stock 07 system are geared specificaly towardsw maintinaing emissions level(s), NOT maintianing any degree of performance. 2) Darren, you alluded to the fact that it can "handle" simple changes, like "certain slip-ons" & possiblly an air filter. However, given that... refer back to point #1. It's NOT maintainingstateof tune for performance or ridability ~ it's for EPA.
Does that make sense?
