That's probably a better and more honest reason for a cam swap than about 90% of the people give on here.

If you can do a cam swap and get the sound you want go for it. Hell you are listening to it every time you are in the bike. I get a laugh out of all the people agonizing 1HP here or 3lbs of torque there like they are professional racers. I know that I certainly am not a good enough rider to take advantage of any real difference that one quality cam versus another would make. I am willing to wager that the vast majority of the people on here are not either.

Find a combination you like and go for it!

Nothing wrong with changing cams but you have to be smart about it. Overly large cams in otherwise stock motors are a mistake that newbies (and 16 year olds with their first car) make and regret. The real question should be what cams will boost my power/throttle response in the RPM range that I ride most? That'll be one or two sizes smaller than the lopey idle cam but it will run a lot better. Just trying to help anyone who falls into the above categories, but do as you want, I'm not the one spending the $$$ here.

in reality you are prob right. ppl talk like its all about numbers but i would agree that they also worried about the sound more so than that extra hp or 2

You are so correct, yet so many people still want that sound on a twin cam. To me, and I'm a rider, not a guy who cares how I drive up to a bike night after riding two miles, I want my cam to enhance the RPM range in which I ride.

In other words...who CARES what it sounds like? Get a cam to perform, not to pose with! Sheesh!

My thoughts exactly...I swapped out cams for the performance improvement not the sound.

Well if you are not after every last foot pound and just love the lumpy idle WTF is wrong with having a nice sounding idle???
One company does indeed advertise their idle sound of their cams.

Which company would that be?

SE 211s were wicked in my 96 and the power was there as well 95/105 with nothing else but tuner, super sucker and some Bassani True duals. They are close to the 204s with a bit more overlap. Their are probably better cams then either of these on both fronts of performance and sound. I think you can have both, not only one or the other within reason of choices. Good sounding cams, and great power can in fact go together. My two sense...
