Default clamp for Paul Yaffe touring bars

I just ordered a set of Paul Yaffe 10" bagger bars and it says that "NOTE: When installing any of these bars on 2007 and earlier models, the one-piece top handlebar riser clamp OEM #55918-08 (or PART #0603-0363) MUST be used."
Does anyone know the reason why this should be used?

BTW: yes, I know I would probably like tallers bars better, but I ride a lot in cold weather and am hoping that I will still be able to keep my hands behind the fairing with these bars.

I have a set of 12" YB on my Street Glide and my hands are just above the faring. I have added a pair of hand shield from ezbrackets for the colder days, however I may just leave them on all year round.

The one piece top clamp is recommend on any install of apes. It holds the bars tighter than two individual clamp or shall we say it creates more force to hold the bars firm and keep them from slipping in the stock clamps.

Gloves work better and don't make you bike look like a motocrosser but that's just my opinion....

I've seen bars crack from using the one piece on apes. For the record, those Yaffe bars are closer to 12s...Your hands will be right below the top of the fairing...

They really broke the cold wind. I have great gloves and these just made it better. Thanks for the opinion.

thanks,
I have never heard of this before. wonder why it would cause them to crack.
right below the top of the fairing is what I am hoping for, as tall as I can get while still getting the wind protection as this is my cold weather bike.

thanks,
was wondering about that, I run 10" HD tallboy bars now and have no problems with slipping ( I know the PYO bars run a little taller though) was thinking about maybe drilling and taping the top clamps that I have now and installing a set screw to clamp on the bars.

Hmmm... When I was shopping apes for my FLHX, most web-sites made mention that one-piece riser clamps were REQUIRED.

I understand that bars can crack, but the cause is more likely to be a manufacturing defect with the bars or the clamp, or improper installation (read over-torque), not simply the use of a one-piece clamp.
