wider on rear means more tire... more tire means able to run longer.. means it lasts longer than a narrow tire..

if one wide rear tire lasts as long as two narrow rear tires which only lasted as long as one front tire then it would be....

one rear to one front

your bike has a narrow rear tire... so yes... you'd get two to one.... his bike has a wide rear tire...

guess i should also add tire compounds are little harder in the center versus outer edge in the touring bikes so they last a little longer than a sport bike tire of same width.. or older narrow tire.

my sportbike tires were soft and sticky. first one i got 1500 miles out of it. got about 2500 out of the second.. by then the front was shot.

after that i averaged 3000 out of a rear and by the second tire the front was cupped so bad it needed changed anyhow to keep up performance..

this was on a '04 speed triple special edition.... my brothers ducati s4 was about the same.

i was totally amazed at how much i got out of my tires on the flhx.. i could have left them on for another 3 or 4k but i had the tires and was doing maintance so i just put them on instead of waiting.. will be good all year now.

Your stock Dunlop front tire started life at 5/32, so that means if you change it at 2/32 your tire still has 1/3 of it's wear life left, that should be 6-8K. The rears are wearing longer more due to the MT, multi-tread design with longer wearing compound in the center on rear tires, than it is to larger tire size. Dunlop now has Am Elites available with MT design for most earlier model bikes also.

On my '94 FLHTP & '02 FLHTCUI I did 2 rear tires to 1 front tire. Both bikes ran Dunlop D402 tires and I'd run 12,000 on a rear tire & 24,000 on the front. In '09 there was a frame change for the touring bikes along with completely different Dunlop tires that had a different tread design and tire compound. The tires had a harder compound in the center with a softer compound on the sides which allowed for longer lasting tires. With my '09 FLHTCU I was able to run 18,000 miles on both the front and rear tires.

Final thought on the subject - If you have the ESP with tire & wheel coverage, the tread depth needs to be 3/32 or better for them to honor a claim.

So you need to keep a close eye on this and remember to go to a busy corner and look for a rusty beat up driven on nail or screw to stab in the sidewall. Tire guys get suspicious when the nail or screw is shiny and new. Better be safe and do it when the tire is half worn out.

07 Ultra has the 2 to 1 ratio most often. I get about 10 miles on the rear with Texas rough *** roads and 20 on the front. Does not matter how well I care for them, the ratio stays the same.
