sit on your bike, close your eyes, and hold your hands out to where you want to be at when riding. make sure the bike is straight up and down and have a friend measure from the risers to your hands. directly up. if your hands arent directly over the risers then draw an imaginary line back to them to get the height you would want. im 5'10 and running 18s. its all in what you want as far as style goes

Man, to be honest---I say don't buy them unless you can sit on a few like escalade did. I was so confused reading this forum when I was deciding on Apes. Because I'm 5'11, some said I should get 14s but I waited it out. I saw that 10s blocked the mirrors, but they felt comfortable (neighbor let me sit on his), 12s looked good and felt good (stranger at dealership let me sit on his), 14s felt too high (best friend let me ride his), then another neighbor put 12s on his, let me sit on it and I was sold.....and I don't wish I bought 14s--I'm happy with 12s. Its all subjective--two weeks ago, I even rotated mine back to me about 1/2 inch or so because I felt I was reaching----which is another story because if you ever change your seat, the dynamics will change---ask me. Good luck man--take your time tho---I don't think height really matters much, as someone else said---my 5'11 is not the same as someone else's 5'11---and we'd like to think everyone sits exactly the same, but they don't....same with cars, two ppl, same height, different adjustments on seat and steering wheel.
AMEN TO THE ABOVE!!!!!! I modded my seat after the bars, had my bars pushed forward cuz everyone said it was the correct way...then pulled them back cuz I decided to be comfy and now my C&C seat is HEAVEN with or without the backrest
If you are moding your seat, do that first for sure. There is a difference as well if you are running a back rest or not (at least for me).
Also I pull mine back pretty frequently especially when touring. When the 12.5s are perfectly lined up with the forks they are spot on for me.
At the end of the day, worry less about the look then the comfort factor.
