Yeah, the service manual describes the process...

Press the brake lever, then place the shim between the lever and clamp housing, where the cable is exposed (near the pivot) from pressing the lever to the hand grip.

Open this .pdf file, and look at fig.2, it shows exactly where to put the shim.

Thanks for the Tip and help! Wish I would have seen this before as it would have probably saved me a lot of resulting headaches and adjusting.

it's actually a step in the manual.. I skipped it too and suffered the same fate.. got it rigged up and works fine.. now the right blinkers don't work lol
