+1 on the Boom Audio speakers. Sound better than stock and an easy fit, price wasn't too bad either.

If you plan on adding an amp down the road, or even think you might.....buy the best speakers you can afford, hertz, focal, rainbow, rockford etc...
You can pick up a set of decent speakers with in your budget that will be good when you expand your system.

If you're using the HK head unit, you'll be limited to 2 ohm speakers unless you add a amp. The selection of 2 ohm speakers is limited, but I would definitely recommend 6.5" speakers with speaker adapters. The JBL's and Infinity's get good reviews and are inexpensive. Check the Audio Forum here for specific models. You can always add a 2 ohm stable amp later to work with the speakers.

I was in the same mind set as you OP. Spent a few weeks reading and re-reading posts in the audio section by the experts on here. Decided on the Titan 7.1 and a RF300 amp. The amp was only $132 on Fleabay.

I went with the J&M's 7.25's. They are still waiting to be installed but I have high hopes for them. I plan on adding the amp eventually just had other things I wanted to do to the bike before the amp.

for no amp get speakers that are 2 ohm with the highest spl rating, higher spl rated speaker put out more sound with less power, but will likely have lower wattage ratings, wattage ratings are unimportant if you aren't adding an amp. if u get polkas don't waste money on marine grade as ALL polks meat marine grade standards as do most all car audio speakers.

Did Hogtunes speakers last year and definite improvement over stock. While it was an improvement, I still want a little more so I just picked up the Rockford Fosgate PBR300X2 this week... Now if we could just get the damn weather to cooperate here.

I had that amp with my stock HK. Couldn't get an FM station to save my life. Lost them all unless I was parked in front of the radio station.
