Curious what people clean their mufflers with because they get pretty hot? I have always used maguires detailing spray

windex on a regular basis, use it for most of the chrome
the most important time to clean the pipes is after install- any greasy fingerprints/smudges can be burned in.

I also use Windex on all my chrome.
and *gasp* 0000 steel wool. If I keep it wet with Windex, I've never had a scratch..
That's just me, and YMMV.

Pledge for a quick detail.
Otherwise, chrome polish and a good wax once a year.

Windex and MF towel here as well. I usually use a chrome polish on all my chrome in the fall before it goes to sleep for the winter.
