Thank you all for the reply's so far. I understand that there's no set amount of miles before the bike gives up the ghost. I bought my 97 Softail with less than 8k on it, and had to tear down and rebuild the engine by 20k. The previous owner considered it to be garage jewelry more than anything. I had dealer service records as well, but like someone pointed out, that didn't mean that work had been done properly, or that someone else hadn't tried something beyond their ability either.

I'm definitely handy with a wrench, and do all my own work whenever I can. For engine work though, I have a great shop that I leave internal work to.

The bike in question is a 2007 Ultra, 55k miles, stage 1 upgrade with power commander, V&H Pro-pipe, new rear tire, (needs a new front), new brakes, and also comes with the 103" kit. The guy never got around to installing it. He's asking 13K. Gun Metal Grey and lots of chrome.

As far as the miles on the bike, it's really not too many on a per year basis. I don't know if the front end has been rebuilt yet, but lets assume it hasn't. So considering that, new front tire and possibly new shocks, what are your opinions on the price?

I'd ask him to go down, you could find something with a lot less miles for that price.

What do you think would be a fair price for this bike with that mileage? The stage 1 adds some value, as does the exhaust. The stage 2 kit that is included, I don't see as much of a value added item. Yes, its great to get it thrown in with the bike, but I've seen the kit sell for around $700 and it's going to cost money to have it installed and tuned. So it's hard to look at that as an added bonus, when it will in fact cost me money to use.

13,000 - 14,500 seems to be a good price in my mind + make sure the 103 kit is complete

I was going to buy a 2002 Electra Glide I was told be careful because of the cam chain tension system wears out around 30,000 before the year 2009 and 40,000 to 50,000 after when they changed to the newer system. If there is a way to inspect it before u buy it I would.

The stage II kit is definitely worth something. If you don't want to pay to have it installed, do it yourself (not that hard), or sell it on ebay and put the 500 bucks back in your pocket.

If you want the bigger motor (which is nice to have), you're going to have to pay for it some way, either through upgrades, or by buying a newer bike. Otherwise, run the 96 and call it good.

With something like the Stage II kit, aside adding displacement and all the goodness that goes with that, would it add any sort of longevity to the engine? Obviously its not a full rebuild if you are keeping everything aside from the jugs and pistons stock, but wouldn't that be in a way, a partial rebuild? Or am I way off base here?

I think hes on the high side. I wouldn't pay over 11 for it. Around here bikes come up all the time with less than 20k and only few years old for 13k-15k. Browse craigslist to see about what bikes go for in your area and look at others.

To much money in my book for that bike, I found an 09 with 24k miles for the same price. I easily found older models with less mileage for the same price or better, I'd keep looking if it was me. JMHO

Way to high on his price. I bought my 09 last November with 37K on it for $10,300!
