Default 2009 road king police? Good deal?

Ok guys , so I wasn't planning on getting a new bike till next winter but I saw a bike listed for sale...it is a 2009 road king police....under 6000 miles...it is listed for 11000 at a dealers site.....I have to wait to call about it in huge morning, but it's definitely in my budget....I'd be trading in my sportster and paying the rest cash.....

I just wanna call, make sure they actually have it, ask about if it has abs, etc....I would assume it has the 103 engine., from what I read I think abs was an option but I'm not sure.....

Any things I should ask the dealer about it specifically ...I would assume there's a certain checklist they should go thru when they get a bike in to sell but I'm not gonna just assume it's all good....it's low miles but it might have been sitting quite a while....also from what I have seen in my area the price almost seems way too good for a dealer listing....just looking for any advice....I would really appreciate it...Ryan

P.s....I am tall, 6'4... The police seat sits u high and forward correct....so I assume I'll need at least a new seat and maybe bars for a good fiit?

I just bought an 11' street glide from dream machines.com in dallAs. They have three 11 police bikes that are cheap. Shipping is easy with these guys as well. It's worth checking out. I don't work for them either. FYI.

cop bikes can be a great buy...or a mess.

depends on the PD and their policies- and if the unit was assigned to one officer, a pool.

or used for training

check under for scrapes

check for signs of brake rotors overheated and warped...brake pad thickness

these can be a great basis for a custom build

electrical can be tricky if alot of cop stuff has just been hacked off.

my 1988 FXRP retired from the CHP in 1990. We are still together.....sigh

Also, I believe all police bikes have ABS.

I bought a new 2011 police Electra glide and paid a little over 16. Bike comes with no extras and abs was an option on mine. Recently had a dealer offer me 10- 11 for mine on trade.

Well I don't know if the dealer will have any info on if it was actually used at a police department but I'll definitely ask....my thinking was the same that it could be a hit or miss depending on how it was treated...but an 09 with 6000 miles....how much could be wrong with it?....ryan

Not all police bikes are commissioned by police departments.

It's my understanding that dealers have to buy two extra per contract with the department as backups for a certain period, could be wrong.

some PD's require that all services be done by a dealer- which would make service records available.

my FXRP came with all service records...and of the 5 bikes at auction that day- I bid on 2 after looking at the records for each bike
( this was 1990 when there was a 2 year wait list for a new bike).

ask, get details...even google the vin.

once in a while a vin search will come up with info

Check out www.retiredpolicebikes.com

Cop bikes can generally be had for $2-$4K less on avg than their twin civilian bike.

Check NADA for value.

Some are never put into service.

2 things to watch out for;
1. Bad civilian wiring conversion, poor job when they remove all the LEO lights, bells, and sirens.
2. Rode hard training bike - mostly cosmetic scrapes,,dings, and dents.

They are great bikes for those who are all about DIY.
