Default K&N Filter

Anyone running a K&N filter element in the stock filter housing on a 2009 and up HD Ultra Classic?
Do you see any difference?

The K&N has great filtering and that type of filter has proven it's worth to me in my vehicles ( i live in a desert)

2 drawbacks to the stock housing

1.) no velocity stack to order and speed the air into the throttle body

2.) the outer part of the housing is restrictive.

better gains can be found with a hiflow type air cleaner.

The Ness Big Sucker I use has an oiled, washable filter similar to, but not K&N brand. and a velocity stock cast into the chrome backing plate.
Cost me about $115 a few years ago

I'm running the S&S Stealth air cleaner with the stock cover. Filter element is of the K&N type. I have only serviced the air cleaner once this past fall. The bike runs much better than with the stock air filter. The new one is much more open. I also gutted the cat and put V&G slip on muffers on. Hope this helps.

I changed over to a K&N filter last summer before a 4500 mile road trip. I did notice an improvement (but it may have been because the filter I replaced was dirty). Previously going up a hill at 60-65mph I would have to downshift to 5th but with the K&N no downshift needed. It cost 3 times more than a stock but after you clean it a few times you get your money's worth and you can clean it more often and run with a cleaner filter.

K&N has 2 reusable filters for the 96 cu. in. with the million mile guarantee. Both use the original "football" AC cover or any other replacement cover for that matter. The HD-1508 replaces the OEM original paper filter and looks just like it and apparently gives a bit more hp. However, the new high flow, performance filter, RK-3930, increases air flow and as such the HP as well. This filter comes with everything you need to make the conversion.
