RE: Wondering how many use synthetic vs standard pertoleum oil
I have run amsoil for 25 years. change oil once a year . Can't ride to work so some evenings, some weekends only . Change filter and top off around 4000 miles. Had oil tested when I live in flA. and oil was fine at 10,000 miles . Save alot of money not haveing to change all the time.haha Don't buy nobodys snake oil. Do like red line heavy shear and the trans and mlt in the primary though.

Thanks everyone for your input. It appears that synthetic is the hands down winner with the majority using Amsoil, Redlineor Mobile 1.
After reading the posts I have ordered Amsoil for the motor and will change the tranny over sometime down the road.

Put Redline Heavy Shock in the tranny and MTL in the primary this afternoon. First time I've been able to shift into neutral since I've owned the bike. I'm a happy dog!
Will change engine oil to Amsoil, Redline, or Mobil 1 soon.

I use Wesson in the engine, Mazola in the primary, and Bertolli (extra-virgen) in the tranny. Wesson is used in the engine because it has a higher smoke point and a better odor when hot. The most important factor is frequency of oil change. The ones I use must be changed after every other ride; if you use dino, you can go 3-5k miles; and if you use synthetic you can go 5-8k miles. Any synthetic that has been brought back from the moon can be used for 10-13k miles. So there you have it in an oil bag (is that the same as in a nut shell?). By the way, most of my friends refuse to ride with me because they say that when they are around my bike they get hungry! WTF?
You folks take this oil thing waaaay too serious!

I was running Syn3 in all three holes and much like you I thought the bike sounded a bit noisy. In addition, I sometimes found it hard to find neutral. I replaced the Syn3 with Amsoil 20 W 50 in the engine, 10 W 40 in the primary and 75 W 90 in the tranny per the Amsoil website. The bike runs much quieter, cooler and shifts like a dream. And the biggest surprise is the famous "Harley Clunk" is a fading memory. For my money, Amsoil all the way baby!!!
