Default True Duals Question and Survey

I have the MGS true duals and love the look and sound. However, one small issue I have with them is the placement of the rear cylinder 02 sensor. It is back by the left rear passenger peg, infront of where the muffler attaches. From what experienced tuners are telling me is that 02 sensor placement and position is critical to performance.
Being that the rear sensor is so far back its catching cooler reversion air and giving mixed signals to the ecm. I was told the sensor should be same distance as the stock pipe for a more accurate and consistent reading.
Seems everytime I download my dyno tuned map the bike runs great, and slowly over time the popping starts in.
So Im now thinking of getting a new dual setup. True duals sound great. Does the 2-1-2 sound as good? I know Ive read it gives slightly better performance.
Any suggestions or recommendations out there? Either true dual or 2-1-2? Can you post pics as well?
Im hoping I can sell these duals and cover cost of new/used setup. Some people like the decel popping sound but it just drives me nuts.
Thanks for your feedback.

Have you considered taking them to an exhaust shop and having new bungs installed? I think that would be the cheapest scenario. Put em in the same location as the stock headers.

DUH....What the hell was I thinking posting about an 2009 header!!!!!! He has true duals....

My MGS true duals came with the bungs in the same area as my 09 head pipes. I'm assuming the 2010's on up have the bungs further away from the heads? Not sure if the 02 sensors would reach but why couldn't the 2009 true dual pipes fit on a 2010 model??

Your right the headers would fit but...and don't quote me on this but I think if you put the 12mm O2 sensors in the 09 bung position, the heat is too extreme for it. That's why the 10's and newer are located a little further downstream in the header.

I have vance & hines. I like the quality. I also like being able to just replace the sheilds if needed.

Having that left sensor in that position is wrong. It needs to be the same distance from the head, by less than 10" difference, to the original position. Preferably no more than 2" off if possible. You should be able to find someone to weld in a new 12mm bung.

Here is why this may be the wrong spot. The ECU is programmed to know that what it sees at the stock point in the pipe is a certain number of exhaust pulses AFTER the pulse that just fired. Narrow band O2s, like come on our bikes, read each and every exhaust pulse. SO... for ***** and giggles... say the ECU is programmed to 'know' what it is seeing at the O2 is anywhere from 20-100 pulses late... get me? It depends upon the rpm of the engine and it will keep track. Now... move that O2 to a posistion that WOULD be reading 45-145. This is NO WAY adjustable with any tuner going and just Fs up the signal. The bike's tune goes away after a bit because youre sending bad data right from the start.

With me? If not... I can try to explain better, if need be.. Steve Cole told me that those 12mm bungs can be moved like 4-5" either way (away or towards the head), but any more than that it will start reading the wrong pulses all the time. And... he said it would be better to be an inch or two closer to the head than stock if need be. So... me, and I AM going to TIG in some new bungs on the old D&D, I am going to shoot for as close to stock as possible, by using a string run down the pipe to measure with. We are in the same boat, my Brother.

So... measure the distance from the head on the stock pipe, then measure the distance on the new pipe and you will see where that new bung needs to go.

V&H is NOTORIOUS for placing bungs in the wrong place. A LOT of tuners, and even Steve have called and talked to V&H about this........ to no avail.

One easy way to deal with it is to use a Power Commander (PCV) and eliminating the 02 sensors all together. Not a very elegant solution, but it works...

I don't know what the difference in the head pipes are but the set on my '14 has the 18mm bungs up close to the heads. Do you have the 18mm bungs? If so, can you put an adapter in the 18mm hole?
Just a thought.
