Default SE Big Bore Stage 4 or SE 110 Stage 1

My 2010 103ci Ultra Limited has about 104000 miles, I know things are worn (duh) so... it's time to think about doing some engine work (knocking on wood - no issues at this time)

Which would be a better bang for the buck option considering the miles already on the engine?

SE Big Bore Stage 4 kit?
or
SE 110ci Stage one kit?

Both cost about the same +/- a few bucks, labor may differ due to the different components of each kit.

They Both have pistons (10.5 -1 vs 9.3 -1), rings, heads (ported vs not?), clutch spring, lifters and cams (stg 4 has 259, stg 1 has 255 - I've already upgraded to 255)

Stg 4 has a 58mm throttle body and push rods (not included in Stg 1)
Stg 1 has 110ci Jugs (not included in Stg 4)

I like the idea of the power and torque increases the Stg 4 should give me, if the charts in the parts book is even close to actual (over what the 110ci Stg1 will), but then I also like the idea of getting a new set of jugs because of the miles, and yes I realize mine could be reworked if needed.

What do you think?

Labor on the 110 will be much more because the cases need to split and machined for the bigger jugs. That isn't really a bad thing with your mileage because ya ought to be thinking about rebuilding the lower end anyway. I would skip either SE option and have your jugs/heads/crank, bored/ported/trued&welded along with matching pistons & cams done by a reputable indy builder. Way more bang for the buck!

Dealer is picking up my bike tomorrow to do the Stage 4. It is a 2014 SGS with only 1700 miles. I like the performance (shown in the catalog anyway) of the Stage 4. I also don't like the extra labor involved with the 110.

As a guy with 140,000 miles on a good running 95" Stage II Road Glide, I can tell you that when it's time to do anything major to the top end of the motor, I'm sure as heck going to split the cases and rebuild the bottom end at the same time too.

So thinking that way, in your case the 110" would make sense.

The part about splitting the cases and rebuilding the bottom end makes good sense with your miles, but from a performance stand point I will bet the 103 stage 4 will spank the stage 1 110. I know I have.

I know that's right. If I recall the Stage I 110" puts out about the same power as my 95" Stage II.

85 HP / 95 ft/lbs Tq

But then, why just a Stage I?

Split the cases, address the crank, and do a 117.

Why screw around?

+1, a 117 would be one fun ride.

Harley 110 is not a performance setup. If I ever need to split the cases, it will end up a 117"!!!!
