travel fantasies
As a lot of you, I'm stuck in the cold fantasizing about riding. I'm fairly new to touring and am from the SLC, UT area. I want to find an over night destination for a quick two to three day trip to kind of crack my touring nut. Lots of cool places in Utah I've been too so I'm looking for places I could travel in neighboring states (2 to 3 days). I didn't post this in the Utah forum because I also wanted to know if any of you have found a convenient tool for planning trips and mileage etc.. I think that would be a genius app for you entrepreneurs. Plug in base city, days available to travel and popular destinations from your starting point, oh yeah..

Better than the HD ride planner...... http://www.tyretotravel.com/ ....uses Google maps. You can download your trip into a Garmin or a TomTom. The free version does have ads.... but they are easily ignored.

You live in a beautiful state for touring.
We've been to Utah several times and have thoroughly enjoyed every visit.
I haven't measured the distance(s) but looking at the map I see that south of you is a scenic (Rt.50/6) that looks like an interesting ride to and across the Utah-Nevada border to Ely, NV
Heading west from Ely to Eureka, to Fallon this is called the "Lonliest Road".
(Not sure but I think this may be the road that has a stretch of 160 miles without fuel service).
It looks like it would be a great ride two day ride (one way) but I don't think that I'd do it by myself.
If I was to do this, I think I'd take the faster route home.

[quote=mkguitar;12300009]yeah, pretty easy to get warm...
head for moab, natural bridges, mexican hat, monument valley, grand canyon, rt 66 add vegas if you have to.
then blast up 15 home.
easy
don't plan too hard, it's the journey...
Did much of this on my trip from Sturgis to the Grand Canyon back in August (didn't do Vegas). I most enjoyed riding 128 between I-70 and 191. If you enjoy a little hiking, visit Arches National Park while in Moab.

I have be to Moab and Arches literally dozens of times because I love that area so much, but I havn't been much further south than Moab, perhaps I'll fill up in Moab and keep on heading south. Always wanted to see the Grand Canyon. Never heard of Million Dollar Highway, I'll have to look that up.
