My Son pulled in too close to my bike and hit my front guard. Rather than buy new ones, I had the front color matched to my Brilliant Silver paint figuring I had nothing to lose but 55.00 powder coating fee if I ended up not liking it. I get more compliments on this subtle upgrade. If I were to put the back ones on, I'd do the same.
It's not a question of will you drop your bike. But when. I had my foot slip on some sand in a parking lot. Wasn't even moving. Tipped right over. Bike was a month old. Guards save it. Worth the money.
I do not have a SG but a classic I have made my own. These pictures are old but show what you are asking about. These crash bars are also larger than the factory ones.
Here are saddlebag guards on my 2010 SG; I've since traded it in for my 2013 SG.
I usually spend about 10 minutes watching your avatar and waiting for those puppies TO POP! But they never do...(best 10 minutes I spend all day though!) Sorry to go off topic...
