Default Question about heated gear connection before I cut wires

Was planning on cutting the Gerbings wire harness that goes to my heated gear, and connecting it to the deutsch connector under the seat and using the accessory switch on the dash to control power to the heated gear instead of having a cable that is hot all the time.

As I'm standing there getting ready to cut the ring terminals off the heated power cable, I got to thinking...is the accessory switch on an 08 Ultra going to be ok if I do this...and is there enough juice coming from the accessory switch on the dash to power things correctly?

Figured I'd ask the group here before I snip-snip.

Not sure, But you could run a Bosch relay from the switch, and the Load is carried by the relay all fused and safe

per the hd manual, the slot #2 acessory fuse is a 15 A

i would check to see what how much juice your heated gear pulls and go from there.

Thanks North. Just wanted to make sure I didn't fry any wiring or the accessory switch with the current the heated gear will pull.

90W Jacket Liner is rated at 110W @ 12.8V

Gloves are 15W @12.8V per glove, so times 2

Now, just got to remember how to do the amp conversion...watts divided by volts equals amps

ETA: OK, think I got it right. Liner uses 8.6A, and both gloves total 2.4A, for a total of 11 amps. Looks like wiring and switch will be ok then to do the cutting.

are you not going to use a controlor for your gear?

I've got the wireless dual controller. Still need to get the power harness connected though.

Why bother? you are not going to sit on the bike and run the battery down anyway, you still have to unplug anyway. Just risking burning up the acc switch. Mike

Thanks Spider. I ended up cutting the wire, putting a deutsch connector on, and going off the Y-adapter from the dealer into the plug. Have it wired to the ACC switch, everything works perfectly, and have 4A of buffer room in the switch/OEM bike cable.

RMC115. I have the dual wireless remote. If it's left on, and I wire the heating gear power cord straight to the battery, it's gonna suck off juice if I get back to the garage and fling the heated liner onto the passenger seat like I do with my regular jacket when I pull in and shut the bike down. I wanted to wire it so I know that it will shut off when the bike is turned off.
