I asked svc tech at the dealer "what's this?" he said "your security, it's the receiver for the fob" (I call that an antenna). my bike has factory installed security, not dealer installed. 68200 07A

the instructions for the smart security system (not siren, not pager) shows an antenna - it is item 3 on the parts list.
Yup . . . granted I never looked at, or put a siren on my '02' and just used the FOB so I've never looked into anything but a '12/'14. Made a bad assumption the antennae was internal given it didn't have to have as much range as that of the pager. Thanks, and I stand corrected.

This is the siren you buy and there are a few threads on how you do it. I had this at one point but it sounded weird when it was arming. The alarm was good if it was set off. I since bought the hd one.

If you are were able to start the bike with out a fob chances are you do not have security!
It is remotely possible that security was never enabled but with the absence of the antenna I bet you don't have it. Have you checked the part number on the TSM/TSSM to verify?

have you ever started your bike? if so, then odds are, you don't have security....

The chirping for arming itself sounded like muffled crickets. At least on the one I had. The siren was a normal sound tho when it was set off. The HD one is like $100 it also has the battery back up with it which I am a fan of.

If you know what dealer it originated at when it was new , most of the time they have a code that you can use the signals to arm and dis arm the security system with out the fobs and in the owners manual it will tell you how tot set your own personal code ! I found mine and then changed it .

I put one on my 2012 after I bought it, and replaced the turn signal module which is the TSSM I believe.
After popping for that I still had to take it to the stealer and give them thieves 60 bux or so to program.
God bless the genius of the MoCo to keep the cash flow coming.............
