Default RKC leather bags - leather tooling advice needed

Anyone here experienced in leather tooling/carving? I love my RKC leather bags and tour pack (esp. the tooled sections) but they're a bit too plain, wanted to add some interest.

Also, have some boot scuffs on the top of them (thanks wifey!) that doc's won't cover up - something to cover or detract from them would be nice.

Also, has anyone seen any of these bags done up?

I had my straps cut by some asshat who couldn't figure out how to open the bags. Local leather guy made these up...they should come this way from the factory. Nice and thick and stiff, they don't flap around like a limp dick

I've used black shoe polish/dye on them and buffed them up.

THAT is nice! That's the kind of feature I'm thinking to put on the top lid. It doesn't look that hard...

Thanks for the response.
