Default Seat rubbing off paint

I just got a '14 SG. I took the seat off after 500 miles to run wires for a J&M amp. The seat is rubbing the tank hard enough to be deteriorating the paint. Is this typical?

I just changed to a solo seat on my 14 RK and the stock seat was wearing the finish off on the rear fender in a spot. Lucky I was able to polish it out.

Use some 3M protective film there.

Common on most bikes...especially touring. If it bothers you = bring this issue up w/your dealer...it's a '14 bike so maybe they'll take some action...worth a shot.

I picked up a roll of 3-M clear paint protection film and installed it in that area on my bike. Trace out the shape of the nose of the seat and transfer it to the chip guard film, cut it to shape and install. No more scuffed paint. I also use it on top of my side covers where the seat was also making rubbing marks. Doesn't show and paint stays perfect.
