Default Anyone go from carb to 07 fuel injection?

Thinking about going from my 2000 roadking carb to 07 fuel injection or if I can figure out how to make it work 08 with throttle by wire.

Looking to talk to anyone that has done this, or maybe wants to go back to carb and we can work out something to some part swaps,

Just curious as to why you would want to do that?

'Anything is possible'. But you are looking are swapping out a LOT of stuff to make it happen. The electronics differences between the 2K and the '07-newer are WAY significant. You are looking at changing pretty much the entire wiring harness (might be able to tie-in to the lighting)' dash, speedo, fuel gauge, ECM, intake, etc...

I totally get that tuning a fuel injected bike can be WAY easier...but, that doesn't seem like enough of a reason to go thru all that work and expense. Hiding the throttle cables is another upside...but again, not worth the work and cost who you can get get an internal throttle set-up from somewhere like Exile Cycles.

Not saying that I haven't done (a lot of) stuff that seems to make no sense...but this seems like a something that even I wouldn't take on.

Just my $0.02...

But I am interested in hearing your reasoning.

wow cabin fever !

put down the bike mags and watch the Flames play hockey instead.

the swap can be done, it will be expensive.

the CV carb on the 2000 model is a great carb, which is self compensating for altitude- handy if you live near some mountains

a well tuned carb will be about even with EFI for power, emissions & MPG.

why?

What problem are you trying to resolve by doing this?

Can get aftermarket injection systems that work very well for less than half what you are looking to spend.

I jus want to be able to tune easier, plus have automatic compressor releases.

I am planning my new motor build right now, (1-2 winters from now) and that's what got me thinking,

1. Tuning
2.I'm going to pull motor anyways, new heads ect
3.Iwas going to powder coat the frame at the same time
4.The harness should be replaced because being an old cop bike its nice and butchered

The price can not be that much will some good deals on ebay ect, and since all labour is done between me and my father that's only a couple bucks for beer.

Trading the bike in is not going to happen as it has to much sentimental value and it's exactly where I want it to be now,

Thanks

So to anyone who has done this, what are your experiences?

I suspect you may find you are on your own with this, I don't recall any posts about doing it. I have ACRs on my carb bike, so there is no need to change anything just for them. As for your electrics, you could buy a civilian factory TC88 EFI harness. Both HD and S&S make kits to fit your generation of EFI bikes, replacing the MMI and providing a more tunable successor. That should be simpler than trying to skip to the much later EFI, IMHO.

If that's the case, then why do you want such a significant change?

You can change your carb to a Mikuni or S&S if going high performance, or if just a bit of a hop up put a Thunderslide kit in your stock carb and you can tune all you want. Not quite as good as fuel injection, but damn near as good and it won't cost a ton to do any fuel changes.
