Rear Tire Change - Bearings or No ???
2010 Ultra Limited.
18K on the clock.
Time to bring my back wheel to the Indy and get new rubber on it.
Can anyone tell me if they had to replace the wheel bearings at that mileage or would you advise on it.
I won't have the wheel off again til 36-40K as I'm told my new Michelin tire will run a lot longer than the stock tire did.
let me know your thoughts.

I always check the bearings every time the tires are changed. If they are rough change them. If there are no signs of grease leaking out and they are smooth when you rotate them save your money.
40K miles and running smooth on my bike.
I spin the wheels every time the bike is on the jack also and do a visual inspection.
The best thing you can do to extend bearing life is to NEVER use a high pressure spray directly on the bearing. If water gets in they won't last long.

On the subject of your tire, I would be very surprised if your Michelin got higher mileage than the OEM Dunlop. There are many of us who get 22-25,000 miles out of the rear Dunlop.

Just shy of 35,000 miles (like within 200 miles of it), and still running original bearings. Changed to the Michelins somewhere around 13k miles. Still have plenty of tread left on them. Figure they and the bearings will last until next winter at least. But will have the bearings looked at then.

there is no reason to replace wheel bearings at that kind of milage. i have a few buddies with over 50,000 miles and myself that are still running the stock sealed bearings. i know another guy that just pasted over 100,000 mile and has still not had a wheel bearing problem even though he is changing them out this spring.
