Default Need opinions: Best Options Lower FLHT

When I bought my bike it came with the front and rear lowering kit. The rear was the cheap angle bracket version. I am looking to get the bike lower in the rear than it is now, and trash those angle brackets.

Setup for my 2003 FLHT:
Stock 2002 Road King seat (changed console)
Stock air shocks
Rear Angle Brackets (as mentioned above)

Goal:
At least 1" lower than now.
Best bang for the buck.

Will the shock change more than makeup (1") for the lowering brackets being taken off?If the lowering kit I have now is taken off (which I think lowers 1") I would need to lower by changing the shocks 2".

I've read people have been successful with 11.5" shocks. If my 2003 FLHt comes with 13" than by changing the shocks to 11.5" I have gained overall 1/2".

Not sure on my numbers are right, any feedback welcome. The one thing I do not want to is spend $400 on shocks and find I'm at the same height in the rear.

Since I have the stock 2002 Road King seat I'm sure a seat would help also.

Hmm...went thru something like this on my road king classic.

I tried the solow brackets, didn't particularly care for em. They lowered the bike 1".

Eventually ended up with the progressive 412HD 12" shocks...they lowered the bike exactly 1".
It sounds like you are on the right track with the 11.5" shocks since you are trying to get a little lower, but I would still recommend the HDs from progressive. Think mine were $180 shipped.

Keep in mind tho that going to anything lower than 1" on the FLs might cause some problems with rear fender clearance. Most guys seem to not have problems with it, but I would check clearances for wiring, etc before going out on my maiden voyage!

Curious as to way you didn't care for the Solo brackets?

Thanks, Dave

I had the 1" brackets and then added 11.5 Progressvie to my 95 Ultra, that's about 2.5" total. it was too low! the fender rubbed on any significant bump. The mufflers also dragged if i came out of a corner leaning at anything angle needed to make a low speed right hand turn. Don't recommend going more than 2". Everything worked great at 1" lower.

Sounds like the shocks at 11.5 and and removing the brackets will give me what I'm looking for. That will 1.5" lower.

My 95 Ultra had 13" shocks. Don't know what the new one has for shock length. I believe the new ultra is 1" lower to start. This is a result of the frame change that accompanied the Twin Cam intro.
