I'm from Baton Rouge, live in Houston now. I'll agree with some and disagree with others. Coming from New York your not gonna see a lot of twisties and hills but what you will see is some marsh and swamp land, you may find it cool to take a swamp tour while your so close! Go South to Avery Island and check out the Tabasco Plant. Very cool tour and the preserve is beautiful. Go to Scott and check out "Best Stop" or "Don's" next to the HD Shop some of the best Boudin and Cracklins in Louisiana, I prefer "Best Stop" plus the Cajun Girls they got working there are worth the visit just to hear em talk. Don't be surprised to hear a little Cajun French in the area.
The Strawberry festival in Ponchatoula is in April 11-13 the following weekend. not sure of the dates of your travels but it would be worth the trip past Baton Rouge to check it out. Hope you have a safe trip and April weather should be perfect.

Lafayette's street design is very poorly laid out! And the signal lights are behind the times too when it comes to handling the amount of traffic. But we do have plenty of the cameras at many intersections to mail you a ticket! Go figure!!

I dont know about the LA Rally, I can tell you that the Tennesse Rally at the end of May will be a good one. Its in Cookeville, TN. The town is a big supporter of this event and has a very good relationship with the local HOG Chapter (Upper Cumberland HOG). Within an hour of the event is some of the best riding you will ever find. The devils triangle, cub mountain, tail of the dragon just to name a few. In 2012 Cookeville had the rally and it was very successful. This year the Motor City Chapter out of Detroit is bringing down over 60 bikes because they enjoyed the 2012 event so much.
