Default CB Antenna Upgrade 2014 Ultra, from J&M

The CB antenna system on the 2014 Harley Ultra, Ultra Limited and CVO Ultra, all suffer from the same issues; insufficient coax cable shielding inside the tail trunk, poor grounding at the tail trunk mounting points to the rest of the frame and very high SWR readings.

J&M CB antenna upgrade kit for 2014 Ultras here http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....ctID=CBAU-HU14 ,,,,

If this is the case, I know it to be because of my 2014 limited and others, why doesn't Harley Davidson have an upgrade for this?

I'm not talking about the upgrade to the software for the CB and Radio, I'm talking about the wiring problem for the antennas. If J&M has a fix why doesn't Harley Davidson have a fix for us with the 2014 Limited and CVO's.

it works, therefore it is something that they can tout as a part of their system. it doesn't have to work good. they probably don't use it therefore it doesn't bother them. adequate ground is often a problem with cb's. problem is that the fix is more expensive than some radios. i'm sure its a quality product, as always with J&M but I don't use the CB enough to really warrant the upgrade.

Would the 2009-2013 Ultra noticably benefit from this?

I'd be in at a price point of $69.95. Basically increasing the ground plain of the antenna

Default Installed J and M upgrade

I just installed the J and M kit. Not sure that it made any difference. I have the 14 Classic with the upgraded radio and cb added. Took the bike out with a friend who has a 14 limited. Tested the stock set up by having my bike stationary and the other bike going ahead measuring the distance with teh trip odometer. Got 2.0 miles with the stock set up. Installed the J and M kit and retested 2 hours later on the same road. Weather conditions virtually the same. There was no appreciable difference in transmission/reception distance.

The install instructions could be clearer on the installation of the ground wires. The pictures only show the forward frame bolts and not the rear. The cable has three connection points, on different lengths. The instructions don't tell you which leg of the grounding cable should go to which frame bolt. I will call J and M tomorrow to see if I made any mistake in the installation.
