RE: Garage Door Opener
I copied Bill's (BSEA) version of garage door opener from post number 24 of the "DIY" Thread.

The push button on the remote(12v) is soldered closed and the battery is removed, soldered leads from the remote battery contacts to the headlight high beam leads on the headlight connector.

My door opener is a liftmaster commercial opener and when I split the remote it operates on a 3V lithium coin battery. I just ran a time delay relay between the high beam and the remote. This way when I am running the high beam I am not killing the battery on the remote.

Sorry just spotted this. My e mail was not notifying me.
My buddy is a electronics guru and had it laying around. It was pretty standard and I assume any supply house like Digi key or Mouser etc will carry them....although I did a quick search and did not find the one I used. I shot him a text and will post up when I find the one I used. Most of the ones I saw on a search were in minutes (delay) this one was seconds and had a potentiometer on it to adjust the time.
Something like this but it was not this brand and I don't remember him saying it was $30 bux or he would have been having me cough it up the cheap bastard...LOL

Nice job. I did mine a little different. I put in a weather proof switch on one of my switch plates on the left side of my SG. The plate just covers the hole where a switch would go if needed. I soldered my remote switch to N.C. (normally closed). basically i eliminated the switch. I wired the weatherproof switch to the positive side of the remote. this way my remote does not receive a constant 12 vdc (or 14-16 vdc - because my bike runs that high) to the remote. The remote receives power when i push the switch. This is nice because I hold the switch down as a ride up to my house. When I see the garage door start to open, I let the button go.
Just another way to do it. I was afraid the higher voltage might eventually damage the remote. This way, the remote only receives power when I push the button.

Talked to my buddy today. He had another one laying around. He said there about 10 bux. I told him to sent it to me if he did not need it as I want to put one on my snowmobile too...lol
I can post up the timed relay I'm using when I get it if you guys are interested. Used it on the bike all summer and it works like a charm. Hit the highs when when I roll in the drive, roll in the garage and back to the lows and the door shuts. One of the best and easiest DIY mods around. Plus this is a lot cheaper than the $130.00 made in China unit HD sells...lol
