Default Brake Pads

When looking on the HD web site they have two different part numbers for the front and rear brake pads on a 2012 FLHTK, yet I believe all the after market suppliers list all brake pads whether it be front or rear as being exactly the same. Am I missing something ?
Thanks in advance Jonnierock

Harley seems to think a different compound is needed on each end, the pad dimensions are the same.

Yeah what is up with the paste for the rear? Why does the front not need it?

I use organics on the rear and semi-metallic on the front as the rears do less breaking than the fronts. Rears also used at low speeds/heat and organics give me better feel.

Probably just anti-noise lube. Pretty typical. I put some on the backs of ALL my pads, MC or auto.

That, my friend, is an interesting idea.

BTW, I put the monkey snot on the back of all three sets of pads. I lube the slider pins every change too.

I used the EBC Front or Rear Kevlar Brake Pads - FA409 on my 09FLHT and within a month I switched back to factory pads on the rear, just felt like there was no braking power until you really got them HOT!

Another question. Does anyone know the thickness of the stock brake pads or where I could find it ? The reason I ask is, I do a lot of non stop cruising, and I'm going to change out the front tire, and if the thickness is more than half gone I would just as soon change out the pads as long as I'm doing the tire, if it over half I'll just wait until the next tire.
Thanks Jonnierock
