RE: Paint Question
I just had everthin on a 2001 EG painted vivid black clear coat except the fairing lowers and the outer fairing for 1500$. This included:
Front fender
Rear fender
Fuel tank w/ tank striping
Saddle bags
Tour pak
Side panels
This was completed, well, I am supposed to get everything back today, by a professional motorcycle painter, not Maco or a auto body painter. I guess if the outer fairing and lowers needed painting also, it would cost an additional 500$. I bought new lowers and a new outer fairing so they didnt need painting. I removed all the parts and took them to the painter and i am re-assembling them as i get them back. I already have the fenders and tank installed...just waiting on the bags and tour pak. The paint is excellent. Clear coat paint, especially black is very forgiving. Meaning, there were a couple spots that i rubbed while assembly and the painter fixed them after i had the parts mounted. I am not sure about other colors. One thing, shop around and make sure you get a BIKE painter that either ONLY paints bikes or specializes in bikes. An auto painter will not give the same quality as it is a semi-different process to paint bike parts than car parts. I was initially going to get my auto/body guy that has done work for me for several years to paint my bike, but he graciously declined once he saw how 'big' a job it is. There is much, much labor involved in bike painting compaired to auto painting.

RE: Paint Question
My quote came from a recognized custom motorcycle paint shop in Orange County Ca that has been featured on TV shows like American Thunder etc. A little less than a third of the quote was for the removal and installationof theparts so when that and painitng the inner and outer fairing and lowers is taken into consideration the price is not that much different between the yours and mine.

RE: Paint Question
From my recent paint job experience...
removing the panels is time consuming especially if you are removing the inner faring. It can take 5-6 hours just for removal and then another 8-10 for installation. At 60-80$ hour labor its not too hard to get an additional 1000 bucks. All that for 50$ woth of paint. WOW. if you care a deceint wrench, and have the service manual, removing parts is really not a big deal, just very time consuming.
