I ride a 2008 RG. I did a 13k mile ride from NJ to CA to WA to AB to CO to MI, ME and back a couple of summers ago and now have 28k on the bike.

I love my Roadie and I thought the bike handled pretty well for a big touring bike. I didn't like the "brake dive". I found the stock air shocks to be comfortable but I was slightly higher off of the road than I wanted to be. So, after doing my research, I decided in March to send my front forks to Traxxion Dynamics and I had them install the AK-20 Cartridge Kit. Dan and everybody else there that I dealt with were great to work with. I also bought and installed a set of JRi-B 12" Shocks.

Yes, combined, it's an expensive mod.

It's now a new bike! It's even more fun to ride than ever before!

1) No more brake dive...I like that aspect!
2) I feel like now, I can feel the front wheel contact with the road compared to the prior feel of a heavy front end out front.
3) The front end is more responsive
4) The JRi shocks are 1" shorter, lowering the seat height to where I want it to sit. These shocks are a huge improvement to the stock air shocks. Much more responsive and dramatically improve the overall feel of the ride.
5) Increased overall confidence in both my own and the bike's capabilities!

For anyone considering a suspension modification, I highly recommend the AK-20 Kit and a good set of rear shocks!

No...

They redesigned the triple trees so the top and bottom both pinch the tubes. They also went from 41mm tubes to 49mm tubes. This all adds up to a stiffer front end with much less flex, but they still use the old internals.

A set of good cartridges on the '14s would be an awesome upgrade....
