HD is limited in their cold weather riding gear. Consider brands such as Olympia, possibly Aerostitch (over priced in my opinion), Tour Master, Cortech, etc. Heated gear (pants, vests, gloves) is a good option as well. The bike's charging system can handle it as long as you keep the rpms high enough to overcome the current load of the gear and still charge the battery. Usually not a problem.
For me once the salt and agg hit the ground I put it away, temp doesn't bother me but hate riding with curves filled with rock and salt.

The computer does it based on RPM and MPH when the combination is right the light comes on. Pull in the clutch and it goes out. Another thing that cause it to not work is the Dakota Digital speedometer re-calibrator.
on my 08, it does not matter what the MPH or RPM is, if the clutch is engaged, in 6th gear, the light is on. if I pull in the clutch lever, the light goes out.

Exactly! Maybe I should have been clearer in my original answer.
It is the ratio between the RPM and MPH that turns on the light. And the correct ratio only exists when the transmission is in 6th gear.

Yes a rode Sun in the 40's temps in Houston area. Amazing how much more power these twin cams produce in that cool dry air!
